Enrichment of the Association’s Photographic Collection

We are pleased to announce the recent acquisition of four original photographs, which further enrich the ACJC collection. These images have been deposited at the Historical Resources Center of the Curie Museum, where they are now preserved and accessible.

These new acquisitions provide unique insights into key moments in the history of science and of the Curie and Joliot-Curie families:

• Frédéric Joliot and Lew Kowarski at the press conference held on the occasion of the divergence of the Zoé reactor in December 1948. This photograph captures a landmark event in the development of nuclear energy in France.
• Hélène Langevin-Joliot speaking at the united Left rally alongside political figures such as Georges Marchais and François Mitterrand, in April 1974. This image illustrates the civic and political engagement of a descendant of the Curie family.
• Ève Curie in Philadelphia, a photograph that offers a glimpse into the life of the writer and journalist, the youngest daughter of Marie and Pierre Curie.
• Irène Joliot-Curie with the mayor of Tunbridge Wells in 1936. At the time, the scientist was in England for a series of lectures, sharing her research and discoveries with the British public. This image highlights her international commitments, just one year after receiving the Nobel Prize in Chemistry with her husband Frédéric Joliot-Curie.

These photographs significantly enhance the collection preserved at the Curie Museum and provide a deeper understanding of the lives and legacies of these emblematic figures.
