Organization and statutes

The ACJC was created in 1959 by the friends and family of Curie and Joliot-Curie, in order to preserve the memory and promote the values ​​championed by these great scientists.

The Association has been successively presided over by Eugénie Cotton, Jean Teillac, Pierre-Gilles de Gennes, Hubert Curien, and Édouard Brézin.

Council and headquarters

The Association’s Board comprises the officers, the director of the Curie Museum, representatives of the Curie and Joliot-Curie families, and several prominent scientists.

The Association’s headquarters are located at the Curie Museum, within the Curie Institute, in the former Radium Institute building where Marie Curie and Frédéric and Irène Joliot-Curie conducted much of their research.

THE STATUTES

STATUTES OF THE CURIE AND JOLIOT CURIE ASSOCIATION

Article 1

An association is hereby established between the signatories to these statutes, governed by the law of July 1, 1901 and the decree of August 16, 1901, under the title:

« Association Curie et Joliot-Curie »

Article 2 

Its headquarters are located

11 rue Pierre et Marie Curie , 75248 Paris Cedex 05

Article 3

The association aims to:

  • Promote the work of Pierre and Marie Curie, and Frédéric and Irène Joliot-Curie, and perpetuate their memory.
  • Contribute to the preservation and promotion of their writings, their work, and any documents or objects relating to them.
  • Ensure the continuation of their conceptions of science, its social role, and the responsibility of scientists, and promote gender equality and science education.
  • Provide support and guidance to the Curie Museum, created in 1994 at the initiative of the association, and develop joint activities and discussions with historians of science interested in the emergence of radioactivity, nuclear and particle physics, and their applications.
  • Revitalize ties with institutions and laboratories that share a common history with the Curies and Joliot-Curies.

Article 4

The association will initiate and encourage any activity related to the above-mentioned goals (publications, exhibitions, conferences, audiovisual events, use of archives, historical research, etc.).

Article 5

To become a member of the association and thus fully support its values ​​and objectives, you must apply by mail or via the association’s website.

Article 6

Among its members, the association may also include benefactor members, collective members and junior members.

Article 7

The association is governed by a Board elected by the members of the Association at the General Assembly.

The Board includes representatives of the family and prominent figures from the scientific and cultural worlds.

The Board appoints an executive committee comprising, in particular, a President, a Secretary General, a Treasurer, and at least one member of the Curie/Joliot-Curie family.

The Director of the Curie Museum is a permanent guest of the Board.

Article 8

The association is administered and represented in all civil matters by the President, who may delegate authority to the Secretary General. In the event of the President’s absence or incapacity, the Secretary General replaces them.

Article 9

The Association’s resources include membership fees, grants and donations, as well as some sales.

Article 10

In the event of dissolution pronounced by a General Meeting convened for this purpose, one or more liquidators shall be appointed by the latter and the assets, if any, shall be distributed in accordance with Article 9 of the Law of 1 July 1901 and the Decree of 16 August 1901.
